Passages Resource Centre

Passages, to most people, enable movement from here to there.

For some young people in Perth, however, Passages is a journey from a state of drifting and despair to a life more stable.

Rotary plays a strong role in showing them that “homeless” does not have to equate to “hopeless”.

Establised in 1999, Passages, a joint venture between the Rotary Club of Perth and the St Vincent de Paul Society, helps marginalised homeless and troubled youth. It acts as a referral centre and ensures provision of services such as “the street doctor”, Centrelink, Youthlink, legal assistance and combating drug abuse.

Passages, operating five days a week and employing five full-time social workers, allows people to use computers, have a shower, wash their clothes and use a kitchen. There are in-house programs on healthy cooking, recreation opportunities and information on health and sexuality. Art sessions and information workshops feed the mind and creative urge.

Passages also manages five accommodation units for young people ready to move into independent living.

Our mission is to provide a safe, friendly and positive inner city service offering information, referrals and support to marginalised young people aged 12 to 25 years. We aim to provide opportunities for our clients to make positive informed choices that will lead to a safer, alternative lifestyle.
