Passages Resource Centre

Passages, to most people, enable movement from here to there.

For some young people in Perth, however, Passages is a journey from a state of drifting and despair to a life more stable.

Rotary plays a strong role in showing them that “homeless” does not have to equate to “hopeless”.

Establised in 1999, Passages, a joint venture between the Rotary Club of Perth and the St Vincent de Paul Society, helps marginalised homeless and troubled youth. It acts as a referral centre and ensures provision of services such as “the street doctor”, Centrelink, Youthlink, legal assistance and combating drug abuse.

Passages, operating five days a week and employing five full-time social workers, allows people to use computers, have a shower, wash their clothes and use a kitchen. There are in-house programs on healthy cooking, recreation opportunities and information on health and sexuality. Art sessions and information workshops feed the mind and creative urge.

Passages also manages five accommodation units for young people ready to move into independent living.

Our mission is to provide a safe, friendly and positive inner city service offering information, referrals and support to marginalised young people aged 12 to 25 years. We aim to provide opportunities for our clients to make positive informed choices that will lead to a safer, alternative lifestyle.

Ramelius Resources Passages Race Day - Ascot Race Course

Saturday 6th May 12pm - 5 pm

A must attend event for the club and friends, great fun, great prizes and all for a brilliant cause - our own Passages.

Passages Race Day is an annual event which raises much needed funds to support Passages Resource Centres in Western Australia.

Since it’s inception in 2005, this event has raised close to $700,000 and in this time we have seen a variety of people and organisations attend. In its 12th year, attending this year’s event is a great opportunity to highlight your organisation’s corporate social responsibility with staff, stakeholders and partners. You are also educating the WA community on how they can help to create new destinies for disadvantaged young people.

Passages has been located in Northbridge for the last 15 years. The property was generously donated by Jack Bendat in 2001 and has proven to be a lifesaving facility for some of WA's most vulnerable.

In 2017, Passages will be relocating to Highgate in order to accommodation the changing needs of the Service, to ensure it can continue to keep up with the ever-increasing demand its experiencing, and deal with the more complex needs of today's young people.

Why should my organisation get involved in the Race Day?

The funds raised at this year's Race Day will provide particular relocation requests like larger work and creative spaces, as well as provide a wider and more diverse variety of opportunities. It will have a unique multi-use space, and will be able to host multiple external agencies on site. This will also allow young people to access the site more often, and for longer periods of time, hopefully resulting in further relationship and rapport building. A large storage space will mean more food can be stored on site, enabling more meals, food hampers, and homeless packs can be provided.

By attending or making a donation to the 2017 race day, you are helping to break the cycle of homelessness and directly supporting the relocation of the Northbridge Passages Resource Centre

Organised by the Rotary Club of Perth and the St Vincent de Paul Society all funds raised on the day through ticket sales and auctions are directed towards assisting street present young people through information, programs and referrals.
Although the aim of the Race Day is to raise funds for the Passages Resource Centre and awareness of youth homelessness, the day is also a great opportunity to enjoy good food and entertainment and provides a perfect opportunity for the business community to entertain their clients, staff and families.

For further information on the Race Day including booking enquiries, sponsorship opportunities or to donate items for the auction please call the Society on (08) 9475 5400 or email events@svdpwa.org.au. More Info
