Final - Rotary 4 Way Test Speaking Contest

Mount Lawley Golf Club - Walter Rd, Inglewood

It has been many years since the Rotary Club of Perth was represented in the Finals of the 4-Way Speaking Competition.

This year we have been very fortunate to be represented by Vanessa Joe, from Mercedes College.  She has won her way to the Finals with a well crafted and equally well delivered speech on bullying, drawn from personal experience and she connected with the audience on both head and heart levels.

Beatrice was at the Semi-Final together with Kim Hurley (our wonderful organiser of the annual event for ROP) and Graham Peden, and were blown away by Vanessa’s speech.

Fellow Rotarians, we encourage as many of you as possible to attend the Final, to show our support for Vanessa, her teacher Bernadette, and Mercedes College.  Our numbers will no doubt encourage Vanessa and her friends from school to participate in many more of our wonderful youth programs such as NYSF, RYPEN and RYLA, which in turn creates future ROTARACT and Rotary members.

It’s to be held on the 7th April at the Mount Lawley Golf Club, 6.00pm for a 6.30pm start.  The cost is $45 per head to be paid directly into the District 9455 bank account – information is in the attached brochure.  The last date for payment is the 31st March.  Please be quick so you don’t miss out!

Please let Beatrice (beatricec@arkitek10.com.au) or Kim Hurley (kimh@ds.com.au) know if you would be attending and we’ll organise a Rotary of Perth table.

Curtin Business School Visit & Dinner

There will be two Vocational Visits: the first is to the new Trading Floor at the Curtin Business School, Hayman Rd Bentley, from 5.30 pm until 6.15pm when students experience working in a simulated stockbroking share trading environment, which is open 24 hours/day, 7 days a week.

The second visit is to the Bentley Pines Restaurant on the other side of Hayman Rd at Polytechnic West when we have booked the entire restaurant for a combined clubs Rotary meeting hosted by the Rotary Club of Perth.  Predinner drinks begin at 6.30pm and seating for dinner begins at 7.00pm.

The menu for the evening consists of a three course meal* with three choices for the entree and main course, and a dessert trolley will come to    each table to tempt your taste buds.  As the Bentley Pines is a hospitality training venue, we have asked long term supervisor John Moore to speak to club members after dinner about how vocational training in his industry has changed as the food and beverage industry itself has changed the last 20 years.
