Four Way Test Speaking Contest

The Rotary Four Way Test encourages teachers and students from each club’s link school to take part in this opportunity for public speaking, confidence building and ethics consideration. The Rotary Four Way Test is a state-wide competition with a State final being conducted in conjunction with fellow Western Australian District 9465.

The aims of the competition are to:

  1. bring the concepts of the Rotary Four-Way Test to the attention of students. 
  2. provide students with an opportunity to compete in a public speaking competition
  3. provide Rotary and the Rotary Four-Way Test with valuable exposure in the community. 
  4. develop relationships between Rotary and schools.

Mercedes College - Perth participants of the club heats will be:

Emilia Gilmore will be speaking about steps towards creating a more peaceful world. She enjoys Drama, Maths and Science in school and hopes to find a career in assisting people, possibly as a nurse or paramedic. Out of school time, Emilia is involved in acting, dancing and singing and rowing. She has won awards for her dancing and was on the school Choir to Europe where they were placed 2nd in the international youth choir festival.

Alana Pinnock is speaking about the importance of volunteering and learning new skills to prepare for the future. She loves studying English, Forensic Science and Maths. She is involved in swimming and hockey outside school hours. She has her First Aid and Revival qualifications and received a Royal Life Saving award for her efforts in caring for another student in a medical emergency. She hopes to train then work as a paramedic or a nurse when she leaves school.

Grace Wake will be speaking about taking action to save the orangutan. She loves creating interesting garments that express individuality. She is a keen netballer having played with Hillians, in Kalamunda, for several seasons and enjoys helping her extended family in preparing their horses for competitions. Grace wants to use her creativity and her desire to make people feel good about themselves by training as a hairdresser.
