PERTH ROTARY - PRESIDENTS UPDATE - 24th Sept 2019
Fellow Rotarians and friends of Perth Rotary,
On 31/12/2019 at the Perth Concert Hall, Perth Rotary and musical director Mark Coughlan will present the soprano who In 2016 she was one of a select few to perform as a soloist for Prince Charles and guests at Buckingham Palace and in 2017, she sang the national anthem at the Anzac Day Dawn Service, at the invitation of the Australian High Commission in London and her performance drew tears from Prince Harry and Meghan Markle who were in attendance.

Amy Manford, a multi awarded WAAPA graduate made her mark in London after commencing a scholarship to study at the Royal College of Music (RCM). From gold medals in pole vaulting and rhythmic gymnastics at the Australian National Championships to landing the female lead in The Phantom of the Opera for her debut at London’s West End, Amy Manford is an artist whose talent has attracted the publicity of the worldwide media.
Musical director Mark Coughlan and Perth Symphony Orchestra have prepared a repertoire of great variety including, some of the most well-known arias and symphonic pieces, the all time dramatic tango compositions of Astor Piazzolla and even some pop tunes!

Last Friday, Mark Coughlan and the concert master Paul Wright, traveled us through the violin and the piano to the musical destination of this year’s Vienna Pops by performing Astor Piazzolla’s Libertango at the After Business Drinks at the Hilton. Some of us had tears in the eyes after that rare performance and many rushed to purchase their Vienna Pops tickets on the spot. If you haven’t purchased your tickets for Vienna Pops yet, you’d better do it very soon.

Everything shows that this year’s Vienna Pops will be monumental and special care has been given to the VIP ticket holders who will enjoy a 5 star service throughout the event. The most important part of Vienna Pops though is the causes that will be supported with the funds that will be raised and these are: the homelessness (Passages) and the medical research (Harry Perkins Institute).

Last Friday’s meeting included also a very special moment. The recognition of Past President Kerry McAullife as Honourary Member of Perth Rotary. Past President Don Mazzucchelli read Past president’s Kerry original profile and bio from his re-induction in 2006 and that was a very emotional flash back for Kerry and for us all.

This Thursday at the Family Buffet at the Hilton, there will be another much awaited and much discussed meeting. The Very Reverend and member of our Club Dr. John Shepherd AM will present to the Club his days at the Vatican.

The Archbishop of Canterbury and the Governors of the Anglican Centre in Rome had appointed The Very Reverend Dr John Shepherd AM as the Interim Director of the Anglican Centre in Rome and the Archbishop of Canterbury’s Representative to the Holy See. After Very Rev. John completed his term we were all looking forward to the day he would present to the Club and the opportunity is now at the Family Buffet, where we can go with our families and friends for an unforgettable evening!

I’m inviting you all to join us in the Family Buffet night with Very Rev. John and also in the exciting New Year’s Eve with the Vienna Pops spectacular!

Yours in Perth Rotary,
Vangelis Katsaitis
Perth Rotary President 2019-2020
