Perth Rotary Tiny Homes Project | Vocational Visit

Preventing Youth Homelessness with Rotary Tiny Homes

The Rotary Tiny Home project provides safe, affordable housing for young people at risk of homelessness. By placing a relocatable tiny home in the backyard of a family or carer's property, we keep them connected to their support network, helping them mature and transition to full independence.   At age 18, many young people face a crisis. Support payments for those in Out-of-Home Care often end, while others are forced to leave home due to overcrowding or family issues. With almost no safe, affordable rental options—especially for those without a rental history, stable job, or a large bond—the risk of homelessness is incredibly high.

According to a 2018-19 WA Auditor General report, a staggering 43% of young people leaving care lack stable housing. Once homeless, they are at significant risk of a lifetime of challenges, including mental and physical health issues.  Rotary Tiny Homes addresses this crisis by preventing homelessness before it ever starts.  Congratulations to David Wee and Marco Camer-Pesci, Perth Rotarians who have got right behind this project and doing a power or work behind the scenes.  Thanks also to Tony Goldfinch and Graham Peden for their continued support and guidance as the project evolves.

Path of Hope Project Update | Launch of the Hope Report

Perth Rotary Supports Path of Hope.

Several Perth Rotarians attended the launch of the Path of Hope (POH) 'Hope Report' on Wednesday, August 20, hosted in the boardroom of corporate member HHG Legal.

Australia's Human Rights Commissioner, Lorraine Finlay, was the keynote speaker. She emphasized that addressing family violence is a shared responsibility, not just for one person or group. It requires the collective effort of government, business, education, and community leaders. Commissioner Finlay highlighted the importance of leading with respect and dignity, and ensuring everyone has the fundamental human right to safety and wellbeing.

The event also featured presentations from POH interns Brigitte Brink and Diksha Sagar. Speaking on behalf of all 61 interns who contributed to the report, they shared their insights with clarity and conviction. Their reflections showcased the inspiring leadership and fresh perspectives of the next generation, proving that true progress happens when experience and new ideas come together.

A special congratulations to the POH Project Team, led by Rebecca Tolstoy AM and Ray Simpson, and supported by many other dedicated members of our club.  Press this Link>>>> to The Hope Report 2025
