Rotary Activities: A Busy Fortnight

The past two weeks have been bustling with events, and I’ve had the privilege of attending many on behalf of our Club.

November 15th - Kagoshima Students' Visit:
We hosted a fantastic lunch event with 42 guests in attendance, welcoming students from Kagoshima, Japan. The event was full of learning and cultural exchange, and it has now been an on-going partnership for almost 36 years with the Rotary Club of Kagoshima

November 17th - A Day with Abby (RYE Student):
I spent a full day with Abby, our Rotary Youth Exchange student, starting with a fun badminton match in Belmont. Later, we visited the Perth Upmarket with Harsha and Mansha, at UWA and it was a fun afternoon with the girls with lots of food and shopping.

November 20th - Lunch with Stephen Milton (PCFA):
Had an insightful lunch with Stephen Milton, State Manager for the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia, along with Jeff Leach and Jill Dawson. We discussed ways to collaborate and provided meaningful feedback to help the foundation to drive awareness for this important cause.

November 22nd - Steeltoes & Stilettos Event:
The Reflections team’s annual fundraiser “Steeltoes & Stilettos” was a highlight. Not only was it for a great cause, but it also featured tradesmen walking the ramp alongside professional models – a unique and entertaining experience!

As we approach the festive season, here’s a look at what’s coming up:

Upcoming Rotary Events:

  • November 30th: 1st Family Picnic at Kings Park, hosted by Ian and Viola Belton. A fantastic chance to promote fellowship and enjoy some fun games. Already 32 registered guests! Book here: Family Picnic Tickets

This year, we will also be bidding farewell to our next outbound RYE student, Eva Sussex, and presenting her with her RYE blazer. It's an event not to be missed! Book your tickets here: Christmas Breakfast Tickets
  • December 31st: Our largest fundraiser of the year, Vienna Pops at Winthrop Hall. Consider gifting tickets to the Vienna Pops Family Matinee as a great way to celebrate the holiday season! Tickets: Vienna Pops Tickets

It’s shaping up to be an event-filled festive season as we wrap up the year with the final Rotary activities before a break in January.

PRESIDENT MANU'S CHALLENGE TO ALL MEMBERS OF THE PERTH ROTARY CLUB - CAN WE RAISE $40K from Perth Rotary via the Cash for Cans/Containers for Change?

Past President Jeff Leach is growing a moustache for the month of November to raise funds for PROST - a not for profit charity assisting men to recover from prostate surgery.  We want to help PP Jeff and our community by raising funds to set up another PROST group within Perth.   President Manu will personally collect cans from your work place or home over the festive season and deliver to the recycling outlet.  All you have to do is collect the cans and keep them aside.   Ask your neighbors, family and friends to help.  Lets see what we can achieve when we all work together.

I am committing to raising $40K from Perth Rotary in Cash for Cans in my year and help Jeff set 1 PROST up from Perth Rotary funding via the cans?

This is my Christmas appeal to YOU, the members of the Perth Rotary Club.  I will report the funds we have raised at the President’s Cocktail Party, Thursday 30 January 2025ONLY IF we are able to get a decent amount 😉.

Abby - RYE Student update | November 2024

“Hello everyone, thank you all for supporting my ping pong fundraising event. My original fundraising goal was 500 USD, but I actually raised 680 USD in the end. I’m truly grateful for everyone’s support and encouragement!

Since my last introductory speech, I’ve had a lot of happy moments. One of them was the surfing lesson I joined with other exchange students. If I hadn’t come to Australia, I probably wouldn’t have had the lesson or the chance to try surfing. But after experiencing it, I found that it’s a very fun and exciting sport! Although there were some challenges along the way, I’m still here, so it’s definitely safe! Thanks to Graham for taking care of me, and to Jill for preparing the life jacket, I was able to complete this lesson safely and smoothly.

In terms of school life, I’m adapting very well and have made friends from Australia, China, Singapore, and other places. We often go out for lunch together during breaks, and we’ve also made plans to hang out during the holidays.

I also participated in a rat dissection experiment at school. It was a bit scary at first, but the process turned out to be quite interesting. Soon, I’ll be going on a trip to Sydney with other exchange students, from November 23 to 30. I’ll share my experiences with everyone when I return. Thank you again for all your support!”
