Membership in the Rotary Club of Perth is more than a line on a resume or a weekly lunch meeting—it is an invitation to belong to a legacy of leadership, service, and deep-rooted community impact. As one of Western Australia’s premier service organizations, Perth Rotary connects professionals, leaders, and change-makers who share a common purpose: to lend their skills, time, and influence toward solving local and global challenges. Whether joining as an individual or through a corporate membership, becoming a Rotarian means stepping into a vibrant fellowship that values ethical business standards, fosters lifelong connections, and actively shapes a better future for Perth and beyond.

Perth Rotary Club was delighted to welcome members # 99 and 100 at our Club Meeting last Friday.  Marika Lewis and Corporate Member Leonora Nye of Business Events Perth.

Leo’s connection with Rotary is a particularly special one, going back almost 50 years. Her father, Derek Nurse was a member of the Perth 1977 - 1996.   Leo is continuing that family connection by joining Rotary herself.

Leo is currently the Senior Business Development Manager with Business Events Perth, where she works to attract national and international conferences to Western Australia and connect global organisations with our universities, researchers, medical institutions, industry and government.  Her career has been wonderfully diverse, spanning medical research, education, professional conference organising, television, entertainment and international business development. A common thread throughout her career has been her passion for bringing people together, building relationships and creating opportunities.

Leo also has a strong personal connection to medical research and philanthropy, having supported fundraising initiatives for the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research following the loss of both her parents to cancer. Outside of work, she enjoys the arts, music, travel, family and friends, is a passionate Fremantle Dockers supporter, and hopes to improve her golf! Leo believes strongly in giving back, being grateful for what we have and helping others wherever possible. Her belief in the power of connection and community aligns beautifully with the spirit of Rotary.

Leo is joining under the Corporate membership being sponsored by her employer:

Marika Lewis brings a dynamic blend of expertise spanning marketing, business development, and operational management.

She holds a Bachelor of Business in Marketing and began her professional career as a Marketing Manager within the education sector before successfully founding and operating her own enterprise. Her entrepreneurial trajectory developed broad expertise across client relationship management, operational strategy, finance, and business growth. Following a career pause to focus on her family, Marika returned to the workforce in key administration and management roles.

Beyond her professional endeavors, Marika is an active community contributor, supporting educational missionary work in Africa to raise awareness and funding for early childhood initiatives. Outside the office, she enjoys golf, exploring Perth’s culinary scene, and spending time along Western Australia's coast with her two children, Ava and Riley.

With her strong entrepreneurial drive, versatile leadership background, and deep community commitment, we are delighted to welcome Marika to the Perth Rotary family.

On behalf of the Board and Members of the Perth Rotary Club, we welcome Leo and Marika.
