June Oscar AO, began her speech for the 2022 Sir Wallace Kyle Oration at the University of Western Australia with the reference to Service above Self and how we can all contribute to the community to improve our society. This relates straight to the heart of all that  Rotary stands for and will resonate strongly with Rotarians and how we conduct ourselves.

June conveyed the important message that “We all need to find and use our voice together to be caring and equitable for a sustainable future”

She added  “Australia is our home. We can and MUST all join together” to make this actually happen”.

June’s spoke of the Üluru Statement’” and how we can and must make choices to ensure an equitable and successful future.  She candidly reminder us that “You CAN make your mark – and make choices” about how we respond and importantly how we can support our First Nations people.

June’s life has been dedicated to the wider community. She is a proud mother and grandmother and aunt.  Her role as the Aboriginal and Torres strait Islander Social Justice Commissioner is a testament to her life’s work. Thankyou June for all that you do and have done.

Special mention was to the Perth Rotary Club and the Malcolm McCusker Centre for the long history of this presentation. Thank you to PP Ted Wilhelm for the huge amount of behind the scenes work that was done and to the Rotarians from the Perth Rotary Club and others who attended the event.

Yours in Rotary
