Members & Friends of the Perth Rotary Club,

On behalf of the Crawley and Perth Rotary Brave Shavers we sincerely thank you for your support of our efforts to raise funds for medical research at the Harry Perkins Institute.  It’s not often I go out for the evening and come home with no hair!!

Not withstanding some audio challenges, we were thrilled with the event and the outcome was beyond our wildest dreams.  Our fundraising target was aspirational, however our community of Rotarians, Colleagues and Friends are Inspirational.  With your help, we met our target and then some.  We raised a whopping $112,366.

A lot of behind the scenes work goes into bringing these events together and we would like to particularly thank the following Rotarians for their support and commitment to the success of the event:

  • Event Coordinator - Ms Leah Granucci
  • Event MC's - Mr Brad Stein and Mr Ashley Ladner
  • Event Photographer - Mr Michael van der Zanden
  • Event Hairdresser - Ms Stephanie Fry, Shape Hair Salon
  • Event Auctioneer - Mr John Garland AM
  • Registration Desk - Ms Savannah Seth, Mrs Yvonne Hart, Mr Darren Perera and Mrs Jo Morris.
  • The Perkins Institute - "After Dark" Laboratory Experience
  • The Duxton Hotel - Overnight Accommodation Voucher.
Thank you once again for your support, it was an incredible experience to be a part of, made very special by the people who surrounded us and supported us.

With your help and support WE ARE…..“People of Action” | “Rotarians Serving our Community

Whilst we were busy raising funds at The Duxton Hotel, Darren Lomman and Perth Rotary Corporate Member Greenbatch were announced as winners of the Sustainability Award at the 27th Belmont & Western Australia Small Business Awards.  The ‘Night of Stars’ event was held at the Perth Convention & Exhibition Centre, Thursday 26 November simultaneously with our Brave Shave Event.  Full details of the evening can be found by clicking on the following link:

Congratulations once again to Darren and the team who are doing great things for our community and our future.

Tonight is the final RMB event for the year.  If you have not already purchased your ticket, it is not too late.  Please go to www.trybooking.com/BKTRC.  5.30pm, Rooftop Bar, The Quest Hotel, 176 Adelaide Terrace, East Perth.  $15/pp.  Major General John Hartley (Retired) is the guest speaker – “What Resolutions Should We Really Be Making?”.

This week we welcomed home our 2020 Outbound Rotary Youth Exchange Student, Caitlin Schmitt.  Caitlin had an extraordinary year in Japan and faced every challenge of not only an exchange in a foreign country, but all that COVID had to offer as well, with maturity, poise and confidence well beyond her years.  Caitlin is currently completing her mandatory two-week isolation in the Novotel Langley Hotel before finally seeing her parents and extended family.  All being well, we hope that Caitlin and her family (along with one particularly excited Granny no doubt) will join us for the Christmas Breakfast on Friday 18 December 2020.   (See below for more details about the Christmas Breakfast).

Rotary does not stop ……..  rather like a rolling stone gathering momentum with every turn.  This week we welcome Mr Ron Manners AO as our guest speaker. Ron is kept busy running The Manners family company, Mannwest Group Pty Ltd, which has been in operation for the past 125 years.  Ron is also the founder and chair of the Mannkal Economic Education Foundation, which sponsors students to receive internships and attend conferences across the globe. These students have the opportunity to learn about policy from international thinktanks – and bring new ideas back to WA.

Kalgoorlie has been central to Ron’s business enterprises with the launch of Croesus Mining in 1986.  Ron served two terms as President of the Kalgoorlie Chamber of Commerce and was Patron of the Golden Mile Art Exhibition Group during this time.

In 1997, Ron established the Mannkal Foundation, a free market thinktank which promotes ideals of voluntary cooperation, personal rights, and individual resourcefulness.

Ron is a Miner, Businessman, Philanthropist and recent finalist in the WA Senior Australian of the Year.  In June of 2020, he was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia for his ‘distinguished service to the minerals and mining sectors, and to youth through philanthropic support for educational initiatives.’  If you have not already done so, please rsvp via your paperless post invitation to our lunch meeting this Friday, 4 December at the Westin Hotel, 480 Hay Street, PERTH.  We look forward to your company from 12.30pm for a 12.45 start.  Registration is payable at the door ($55/pp) and includes a 2 course meal with tea/coffee.

The Path of Hope Foundation is making a list and checking it twice with the 2020 Christmas Gift Appeal in full swing at no less than 13 pharmacy’s throughout the metropolitan area.  The Pharmacies act as collection points for the gifts which are then collated and transported to the Salvation Army for distribution to women and children who are displaced due to family domestic violence.  Helen Leach and the Path of Hope Foundation along with the Salvation Army strive to bring joy, light and hope into the worlds of our most vulnerable community members.  Please go to www.pathofhope.org.au for the full list of participating pharmacies to drop a gift off, or please feel free to bring a gift (unwrapped please) to our Christmas Breakfast, Friday 18 December 2020 and we will ensure it is delivered.  We thank Helen Leach for her energy, compassion, drive and enthusiasm with this project.  Helen is the driving force behind the collection points and success of the appeal for which we are greatly indebted and thankful for.

Please go on line to book your tickets to this event.  We are anticipating a full ballroom at The Westin Hotel and your cooperation in booking early greatly assists us with our event planning.  Please don’t hesitate – just go on line and book www.trybooking.com/BMOBT.  This is a family friendly | Work Colleague Friendly event – Rotarians are welcomed and encouraged to bring guests to this event as we celebrate and give thanks for the year that was 2020.

Rebecca Tolstoy AM, Chair of the Path of Hope Foundation presented a Certificate of Appreciation to Mr Barry Fitzgerald, CEO of Roy Hill in recognition of Hancock Prospecting and Roy Hills’ generosity and support of the Path of Hope Foundation.  Suzanne John, Journalist and Friend of Perth Rotary and Path of Hope Foundation, has written up the full story which can be viewed by clicking on the following link.
