ROTARY OF PERTH PRESIDENT'S UPDATE - 20TH MARCH 2018

If you joined us last week to hear from Simon Creek, MD of HHG Legal Group (and a Rotary Club of Perth Corporate Member), you would have been impressed to hear of HHGs approach to “giving back’ to the community. What struck me in particular was Simon’s comments, “When you give, make sure it doesn’t get spread too thin!” This is the harsh reality of the current environment that we as a club and no doubt the businesses we work in operate. The demands for support are great, but the finances and even pro bono work we can do is thin.

Be sure to check out our club’s Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/RotaryofPerth/) to find the links to the three not-for-profits that HHG supports:

• Fresh Start Recovery Program

• Hagar Australia

• Path of Hope Foundation

This week, we have our club “Strategy Session” and I need for all of our members to attend! We are fortunate to have our very own club member, Rod Evans, who will be leading us in this effort
Rod’s approach will be to provide a view on how:
• Rotary can grow its membership and its future influence.
• What are our next steps in preparing a strategy
• As part of this, so much work has already been done to figure this out! So, how do we synthesize all this research?

It is Rod and my hope that this presentation will be a combination of both inspiration and challenge – at the very least we hope it will result in members having a conversation about our club and its future.
We all have said we need to change…so get on board… we’re moving forward to do just that!

Two Homelessness focussed fundraisers for you to focus on this week:
One in a Million Dinner. Please come out and support Passages which is a finalist!
Stitches of Hope Sleeping Bag Project. Please help us reach our goal. As winter approaches, the need for sleeping bags looms! Visit https://startsomegood.com/the-sleeping-bag-project to provide a one-off donation for a sleeping bag – and Hope!

Finally, we have just released information on our joint event with Rotary Means Business. We are pleased to host Mike Utsler, CEO of Woodside, and former BP executive, for a personal and frank discussion on “Leadership”. In charge of managing one of the world’s greatest clean up activities, Mike will provide us and our guests with some valuable insights into managing difficult situations within complex environments. Please register for this event online and bring your professional colleagues! This is Rotary in Action! www.trybooking.com.au/UVVG

Join Leaders. Exchange Ideas. Take Action.
Yours in Rotary, Stephen Inouye - President - Rotary of Perth 2017/2018
