On a wet and windy Sunday, twenty Rotarians along with family members braved the weather to walk  ten kilometres around the Swan River.   We walked a collective 200km's in support of the Prostate Cancer Foundation and raised $6412.00 towards their overall effort of $1,237,574.00 raised nationally.
the Long Run is an awareness and fundraising event for Australian Men and families impacted by prostate cancer.  Participants were asked to walk or wheel 72kms during September, every kilometer covered raised funds to bring us closer to a world where prostate cancer is no longer a burden and where all men and their families with a diagnosis are supported.

Perth Rotary Members committed to supporting this worthy cause by walking 'en masse' around the Swan River on Sunday 20 September.  When planning this event, Organisers Jo Morris and Dr David Preece envisaged a beautiful, perfect spring day ..... glorious sunshine, not too hot and a Perth City gleaming in the sunshine as it bounced off the Swan River.... Instead, Rotarians and their family members were confronted with gale force winds and squally showers, however........ undaunted they soldiered on around the river in a fast paced two hour walk.  An amazing effort by Perth Rotarians, Jo Morris, Darren Perera, Dr David Preece, Jonas Edner, Jane Papalia, Wes Sim, Rebecca Tolstoy AM, and Jill Dawson for completing the walk today.  We were also thrilled to welcome UNAAWA Member Danielle Youens to the team along with our family members.  Rotarian Jeff Leach raised an extraordinary proportion of the funds and completed his 72kms of walking for the month outside of today's commitment.

The combined effort of all Rotarians, walking, donating and raising awareness is something to be proud of.  A special mention to Kelly, Grace, Jake, Imogen and Jayden who travelled up to Perth from Kojonup to participate in the walk and in support of Perth Rotary.  Our future Rotarians!
