On Friday 5th December, Perth Rotary members and guests were delighted to hear from Clinical Professor Michaela Lucas, MD, Dr. Med, FRACP, FRCPA, about her ground breaking research into the effects of plastics on human health.

Sadly our bodies always hold plastics these days. Professor Lucas told us how this happens, and how we can reduce this unwanted invasion.

The PERTH Trial (Plastic Exposure Reduction Transforms Health) is a groundbreaking study exploring the impact of plastic chemicals on adult health. Focusing on chemicals, such as BPA and phthalates, the study examines their potential link to chronic diseases. Through a seven-week assessment involving blood, urine and stool sample analysis, as well as dietary recalls, the research aims to uncover common sources of plastic exposure in everyday life, how these chemicals are processed by the body, and their possible contribution to inflammation and long-term health risks.
