ROTARY OF PERTH PRESIDENT ELECT UPDATE - 12TH FEB 2018
Thanks to Georgia Comerford, Zarah D'Costa and Jemma Middleton, contestants of our 4-Way Test Speaking Competition, for a kicking off our first luncheon of the year. Their chosen topics were all very much close to our hearts. Georgia's topic "The benefits of cultural immersion exchange programs" was very much in line with what we aim to achieve with our Rotary Youth Exchange Program. The personal story she shared went on to demonstrate a first-hand experience of building goodwill better friendships. Zarah's comments on "Stemming the Mental Health Epidemic", relating it to the current pervasiveness of social media brought to mind recent issues covered in the media involving youth suicides as well as the many projects to that Rotary in WA are trying to get off the ground to address homelessness.
Following that, it was refreshing to hear Jemma tell us the benefits of singing out loud in her delivery of "The Power of Music" and how it can help some of us with our snoring problems!

Over the years, I have always admired how well the young contestants in this series of competition have been able to carry themselves and speak so eloquently on topics they have researched. I believe this is can be attributed to the dedication and guidance their teacher Benadette Dell who has accompanied her girls at every meeting they've attended for as long as I can remember. I'd like to congratulate Georgia for being the judges' pick as the best speaker for the day and wish her the best as she goes on as Rotary Club of Perth's nomination for the semi-finals hosted by Rotary Club of Mt Lawley at Mt Lawley Golf Club on 26/2/2018 (See bulletin notice for details).

"Advance Australia Fair" did sound a lot better with the girls leading us to close the meeting.

The new Rotary HQ (same building but on level 5). With the unyielding support of PP Jeff Leach, the future home of the club and District will support and facilitate the club’s ability to achieve even greater things. Please stay tuned in the coming days/week for the call out for ‘all hands on deck’ when we will need assistance to physically move furniture and items from Level 1 to Level 5.
