PERTH ROTARY - PRESIDENTS UPDATE - 17th Sept 2019
Fellow Rotarians and friends of Perth Rotary,
The power of a Club is in its Members!
Perth Rotary is privileged of having members who lead the way in business, in science, in politics and in charity.

Last Friday our Club demonstrated this power of Membership in a very exclusive Business Breakfast Club meeting with good turn up and very rich and useful content.

Con Michael, engineer and one of the most recognised inventors in Australia was invited to present the Smart Torch. A high-tech instrument that connects remote communities and people in need with the providers of advice and assistance: doctors, engineers, police officers and more.

Con unfolded not only the obvious part of the making of the Smart Torch but also the fight he had to give against various obstacles that were blocking his way to this achievement. His presentation, although it was centered on a scientific invention, was mostly a proof of what a person can do when inspired and a demonstration of the power of persistence and perseverance.

You may be wondering now how the power of Membership relates to Con Michael who is not a member of our Club. Con is Past President’s Ken Michael nephew and Past President Ken was the introducer.
We were very privileged to hear how Con and Ken are connected through their family history and some anecdotes about Con’s late father who was Past President’s Ken brother.

Another highlight of that meeting was the very informative update about the market of minerals, delivered by Past President David Reed. Past President David had his second Rotary Breakfast back to back, as the day before he was invited as guest speaker at Scarborough Rotary Club to present the market of Gold and the processing of this mineral.

Jason Skinner, Managing Director and Founder of JP Equity Partners joined our breakfast too. Jason was a member of our Club till a few years ago and he had demonstrated some remarkable achievements in one of the biggest fundraising events of the time, the Convicts for a Cause. At the Business Breakfast Club Jason gave us an update about the markets, the economy and what we could probably expect to see in the future.

The last update was given by Past President Larry Hirsch who provided us with the news of Rotary Means Business. The year has started strong for RMB and there are many important events and speakers coming up soon.

As Membership and our Members are always the first care in Perth Rotary, Ashley Whitworth, Membership Chair, has prepared a brief survey for all Members. Please take the opportunity to share your thoughts and ideas with the Board as it is very important for us to have your feedback.

This Friday at the After Business Cocktails at the Hilton we will have a very special and melodic evening launching the Vienna Pops!

By looking at the amount of work that has been done this year, I’m confident that this year’s Vienna Pops will be the biggest ever! In this introductory event on Friday we will not have guest speakers but guest performers instead! Musical Director Mark Coughlan and Concert Master Paul Wright will perform a duet for piano and violin for us and they will travel us to the magic of classical music with all the grandeur and the fanfare that Vienna Pops deserves!

The Vienna Pops ticket sales will commence in that evening so make sure you buy your tickets early because we expect to have a high number of attendance, especially in the VIP ticket zone which will be an unforgettable experience for the lucky few VIP ticket holders.

I’m sure you are all as much excited as I am, with what our Club does this year and If I could describe this in “musical terms” I would say that Perth Rotary rocks!

Last week we had one of that started with a very low rate of bookings for our second Business Breakfast Club and it ended up attracting a good list of members and a number of high-profile guests for our meeting.

I was talking to a Board Member that day and I said to her that some of our members are invited as guest speakers to other Clubs and this should make us feel proud.

Yours in Perth Rotary,
Vangelis Katsaitis
Perth Rotary President 2019-2020
